General
Supply and installation of a VertiGo type freestanding aluminium guardrail designed to offer collective protection and used essentially for:
- protection against falls from a height,
- access protection,
- perimeter protection,
- marking out walkways.
The VertiGo system is ideal for making new and existing buildings safe. It conforms to the new safety rules described in the European Directive 2001/45/CE of 27 June 2001, covering the use and provision of protection equipment for temporary work at a height.
Description
VertiGo consists of number of freestanding aluminium uprights (straight, inclined or folding). The uprights are connected together by 40 mm diameter aluminium handrails at 1100 mm high and one (or several) aluminium, kneerails of 40 mm in diameter, arranged in such a way that the space between the handrail and the kneerail is no greater than 500 mm.
The patented EZ-FIX clamping system allows fast assembly of the rails and accurate level adjustment.
Counterweights installed at the ends of each upright are used to stabilize the system, depending on the installation configuration and the implementation principles defined in the assembly manual.
The system also comes with an anti-slip pads at the base of each upright and counterweight. The VertiGo system can be adjusted to the type of configuration thanks to various corners and ends pieces.
When there is no parapet on the building (or if it is less than 100 mm high) it becomes necessary to install a 150 mm high aluminium perimeter kickboard which is secured directly to the bottom of each upright of the system. The VertiGo system is available in two finishes, untreated or lacquered (RAL colors) by means of heat setting polyester powder.
Implementation
The Vertigo freestanding handrail is designed to ensure safety on working platforms, roofs or technical terraces with slopes between 0° and 4°.
The design and implementation of the VertiGo handrail conform to the requirements of European standard
EN ISO 14122-3, Art. 8.2. The system has been put through static and dynamic tests confirmed in a test report provided by an independent organisation.
The VertiGo freestanding guardrail is mounted directly onto the terrace roof without any requirement to drill into the roof and without affecting its waterproofing.
It has an aluminium structure to guarantee a very long life and provide optimum protection against corrosion.
Before installation, check that the terrace roof will take the load of the VertiGo freestanding guardrail. In particular, check the compatibility of the VertiGo system for installation on membrane roofing systems.
The VertiGo handrail is totally maintenance free and needs no periodic inspection.
Restrictions
VertiGo is a permanent collective protection system intended exclusively as a way of securing technical terrace roofs or platforms which are not open to the public.
